if the area is more then the liquid can spread more.

then more liquid will be exposed to sunlight. so more evaporation takes place

If there will be more surface area, then there will be more evaporation as more water will get converted into vapour whereas if there will be less surface area, there will be less evaporation.

Thus, surface area is directly proportional to rate of evaporation.
