demand of Indian indigo grows due to its quality....colour and texture....during British rule it was the most profitable crop and was mostly exported to England for making fabrics

Cloth dyers preferred indigo as a dye. Indigo produced a rich blue color, whereas the dye from woad was pale and dull. By the end of eighteenth century, the demand of indigo grew further.
