When the citizens go and cast their votes, to elect their representatives in the election, they get chance to give their contribution in the government making process. They feel valued. When every citizen, whether rich or poor, upper-cast or lower-cast, male or female, cast their vote in the equal manner, by the same processes, they feel equal. When their opinion matters and their voice is heard, they feel important.
When they don't like the government, they even replace it.
Hence, when democracy gives citizens the right to vote and even to replace the government, it gives the citizens value, by giving them the right to decide their government, and they feel dignified.
