Heya,

We know that the current in a circuit is a flow of positive charges.

These must be repelled from the positive terminal of the battery and attracted to the negative one.

Since, they must flow through the circuit attached to the battery, the direction of the current is from the positive side of the battery, through the circuit, to the negative side.
