When looking at this question the prevailing wind jumped straight to my mind. The prevailing wind may also be called the trade wind which is the direction that a regular wind goes. The north Indian Ocean is quite close to the equator so you would expect it to go outwards and if the prevailing wind changes its direction which may happen during a year such as El Niño where the direction changes, this year actually, the water turns it direction and minerals flow differently having an impact on the wildlife.

I hope this helped you, good luck.
