Plants make their own food by photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide and water react together in the presence of light and chlorophyll to make glucose and oxygen. The glucose is converted into starch, fats and oils for storage. It is used to make cellulose for cell walls, and proteins for growth and repair.

Photosynthesis is absolutely necessary for plant life, and that of animals which depend upon them for food.

Photosynthesis is a process that utilizes sunlight as an energy source to fix carbon dioxide (into glucose). Without it, all life would cease to exist.

Photosynthesis splits water, yielding oxygen for animals to breathe. The hydrogens from the water are added to carbon dioxide to make sugar. This is simplistic, of course. The sugar is stored so that the plant has an energy source. Animals take advantage of this stored sugar when they eat the plants.
