The government have establish wildlife sanctuary and national park to protect fauna and enact forest conservation act to protect flora .

The following steps have been taken to protect flora and fauna :-

1. Fourteen biosphere reserves have been set - up. Four out of these, the Sunderbans, the Nanda Devi, the Gulf of Mannar and the Nilgiris have been included in the world network of biosphere reserve.

2. Financial and technical assistance is provided to many Botanical Gardens by the government since 1992.

3. Project tiger, Project Rhino, Project Great Indian Bustard and many eco - Development projects have been introduced.

4. 89 national parks, 490 wildlife sanctuaries and zoological Gardens are set - up to take care of Natural heritage.
