Five dynasties had ruled over Delhi Sultanate sequentially over a period of about 320 years . Delhi Sultanate was basically a Muslim kingdom . Among the developmental activities of the Sultanate in India minting of coins , building of monuments , promotion of agriculture etc can be listed . They formed the "circle of justice" which was an effort to establish sound governance in India . According to this circle military had to protect the peasants and keep them happy and prosperous . This is because the military got paid from the revenue that was collected from the peasants . Some sultans were generous towards their subjects and took measures to protect them and keep them happy .
