When you apply a high amount of pressure on a material, the particles in the material can’t move as freely compared to when the pressure was absent. So, the more pressure you put on a material, the closer it will be to a solid. If there is a low amount of pressure, then the particles in the material can move much more freely, so the less pressure on a material, the closer it will be to gas.

pressure effect the change of matter
pressure play a very important role in change of state of matter. just like atmospheric pressure ..
The increase in pressure changes the state of matter from gas to liquid and also form liquid to solid. But increase in pressure alone can't change the state of matter .Every gases and liquid have certain temperature above which the application of pressure would not change the state of matter.
Effect of pressure on an equilibrium system is related to change in volume .
