Answer: According to me The reasons behind Tippu's defeat were;

 1. Huge loss of territory after the Third Anglo-Mysore war.  

  2. French Support during the fourth war was less       compared to the previous ones.

3.  Srirangapattana could have withstood the siege for a few more months, or Tippu could have escaped

Finally in 1799, in the fourth Anglo -Mysore war Tipu Sultan was defeated by the British. Tipu died defending his capital Seringapatam . It is said that Tipu Sultan was a progressive and benevolent monarch .
