TO ADD AND SUBTRACT RATIONAL NUMBERS, JUST FIND THE LCM OF THE DENOMINATORS OF THE GIVEN NUMBERS AND SOLVE THEM AS WE DO IN CASE OF FRACTIONS.
EG-
      = -1/2 + 5/8 (LCM IS 8)
       = -4+5/8
        = 1/8

To add or subtract the rational numbers, we need to make the denominator same, and then add or subtract the numerators. The denominator is written in the bottom.

for ex- 4/5 + 4/2

= 8/10 + 20/10

= 28/10

= 14/5
