How to calculate bond order for compounds?

for this you have to study MOT. but there is a short trick which is applicable for mostly compounds is :no. of bonds form by central atom/no. of atoms bonded to central atom. example,O2----------> o=o here total bonds is 2and no. of atoms attached to central atom is 1 so : 2/1=2 hence BOND ORDER IS 2.
