CALCULATION OF DISTANCE TRAVELLED FROM SPEED-TIME GRAPH -
(a) When a body moves with a constant speed in a straight line : -
the distance travelled by a body in
certain time interval is equal to the area under the speed-time graph for the given time interval.
Since distance = speed × time taken
(attachment 1)
Distance travelled in the given time from O to S
→ Area under slope QR
→ Area of OABC = OS × QO
(b) When the velocity of a body increases uniformly from zero/ body is under uniform
(b) When the velocity of a body increases uniformly from zero/ body is under uniform acceleration:
Let's understand it with the help of example
(attachment 2)
Distance travelled 0 to 4 sec
→ Area under slope OP
→ Area of triangle OPQ
→ Distance travelled 0 to 4 sec
→ ½ ×OQ × PQ
→ ½ × 4 × 16
→ 32 m
