How to calculate the area on topo map?..please explain in detail

as each grid of topo map is of actual 1km

total number of eastings(vertical lines) multiply by total number of northings (horizontal lines) so u will get the total area of the map extract.
for example:
if a map has eastings from 92 to 82 and nosings from 14 to 24.
then...
area = (92-82)×(24-14)
= 10km×10km
= 100 sq. km
