The first step is to determine how many classes you want to have. Next, you subtract the lowest value in the data set from the highest value in the data set and then you divide by the number of classes that you want to have: Example 1: Group the following raw data into ten classes.

Changing ungrouped data into grouped data:

  • Ungrouped data is a raw data which is not classified.
  • Grouped data is the data which is classified into groups called classes.
  • Steps:

             → Find the highest value from the given data.

             → Identify the smallest value.

             → Decide the number of classes you want to divide the given data into.

             → Find the class interval

                    class interval = \frac{highest value - lowest value}{number of classes}

             →  Class interval must always be a whole number.

             → Make classes using the obtained class interval.

             → Finally, write the frequencies against each class as per the given raw data.
