मुंशी प्रेमचंद जिनकी कहानी या उपन्यास वह सर्वकालिक है। उनकी पंच परमेश्वर हो या ईदगाह, छोटी छोटी कहानियां जो बड़ी बड़ी बातें बहुत सहजता से कह जाती है। जब भी उनके लेखन को संजीदगी के साथ देखा जाता है तो ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि महान कथाकार प्रेमचंद का सारा साहित्य अपने आप में कितना विराट है। उनके समस्त साहित्य में सारा समाज समाया हुआ है। कभी कभी तो ऐसा लगता है कि शायद प्रेमचंद आसमान से धरा पर सिर्फ कहानी सुनाने के लिए ही आए थे।
