In some cases you can even make a very concentrated stock solution in 80% ethanol and add that to the media for final concentration around 100-200ppm. To control bacteria when isolating fungal cultures I use penicillin at 100ppm and streptomycin sulphate at 200ppm - both need to be added to media after autoclaving.....

Bacterial contamination in tissue culture is well documented, and the failure of surface sterilization procedures to produce aseptic cultures is a major problem with woody plants. Different experimental procedures including chemical sterilization and antibiotics have been used at various levels of success to minimize or eliminate such contamination. However, the type, concentration, and duration of antibiotic.
