How to convert chloroform to Formica acid

Heya....

Here's your asnwer...


CHCl3 + KOH = HC(OH)3


this looses one water molecule. So


HC(OH)3 = HCOOH + H2O


Again due to presence of KOH ( base ) it forms salt


HCOOH + KOH = HCOOK + H2O


Therefore on acidifying it, formic acid is obtained back


HCOOK + H+ = HCOOH
