Hii buddy,
● Ethanol to but-2-yne -
Conversion of ethanol to but-2-yne requires several steps -
# Step I -
Ethanol is treated with P/Br2 to give ethyl bromide.
CH3-CH2-OH + Br2 --> CH3-CH2-Br + H2O
# Step II -
On heating at high temperature, ethyl chloride loses HBr to form ethene.
CH3-CH2-Br --> CH2=CH2 + HBr
# Step III -
Addition of bromine to ethene results in 1,2-dibromoethane.
CH2=CH2 + Br2 --> Br-CH2-CH2-Br
# Step IV -
1,2-dibromoethane is further heated with Na/liq.NH3 to give sodium carbide.
Br-CH2-CH2-Br + 2Na --> Na-C≡C-Na + 2HBr
# Step V -
Sodium carbide on reaction with CH3Br will give but-2-yne.
Na-C≡C-Na + 2CH3-Br --> CH3-C≡C-CH3 + 2NaBr
Thanks for asking...
