How to convert rectangular form to polar form

Rectangular form usually allow to perform addition and subtraction where polar form allow to perform  multiplication and division. To convert rectangular form to polar form it involves some trigonometric forms , follow the steps below:

1. Find R by the formula:  

R =\sqrt{x^2+y^2}=\sqrt{ 1+1} =\sqrt 2  

2. Find tan t using the formula:

            tan t =\frac yx  

            tan t =\frac11

3. Using the arctan function of the calculator

t = \frac{\pi}{4} or 45°
