To convert square metre into metre, take the $\bold{square \ root}$ of the number.


For example :


We have to convert $\mathsf{16 \ m^2}$ into metre.


Take the sq. root of $\mathsf{16 \ m^2}$, we get


$\mathsf{= \ \sqrt{16 \ {m}^{2}}}$


Simplify the number.


$\mathsf{= \ \sqrt{4 × 4 × m × m}}$


$\mathsf{= \ \sqrt{{4}^{2} × {m}^{2}}}$


$\mathsf{= \ \sqrt{{4}^{2}} × \sqrt{{m}^{2}}}$


When we remove the sq. root there is a power of 1 / 2.


$\mathsf{= \ {({4}^{2})}^{\frac{1}{2}} × { ({m}^{2} )}^{ \frac{1}{2}}}$


{ Using algebric expression -

$\bold{(a^m)^n \ = \ {a}^{m × n} \ = \ {a}^{mn}}$ }


$\mathsf{= \ {(4)}^{2 × \frac{1}{2}} × {(m)}^{2 × \frac{1}{2}}}$


$\mathsf{= \ 4 × m \ = \ 4 \ m}$
