The various measures to create employment opportunities in rural areas are as follows :-

\bullet Cheap credit and better irrigation facilities

Local banks can provide credit to the small farmers at a reasonable rate of  interest  so that they can buy all the inputs on time and can do cultivation . They don't have to depend on the moneylenders who give loans at a very high rate of interest .The government can do expenditure on digging of wells, canals and construction of a new dam which will help the farmers to irrigate their land . This will increase the yield per hectare .

\bullet  Promotion of industries

To create employment opportunities in rural areas where a large number of people  may be employed . For example :- setting up a dal mill , industries that process vegetables and agricultural produce like potato , rice , wheat , tomato , fruits , etc.

\bullet  Improvement  in infrastructure

If the government invests some money in transportation and storage of crops , or makes better rural roads so that mini - trucks reach everywhere. Opening a cold storage could give an opportunity for farmers to store their products . This activity can provide productive employment to not just farmers but also others such as those in services like transport , trade , etc .

\bullet Promotion of allied agriculture

In village , near the forest areas , we can start honey collection centres where farmers can come and sell wild honey . Farmers should be encouraged to adopt activities like horticulture  ( growing of fruits and vegetables ) and pisisculture ( breeding and rearing of fish ) , etc .
