The open-tube manometer is a U-shape tube that is partially filled with a fluid, usually mercury or water. One end of the tube is attached to the container while the other end is exposed to the atmosphere. If there is a difference in pressure between the atmosphere and the container, the level on both ends will not be the same. In this case, we can calculate the pressure within the container by taking the sum of the atmospheric pressure and the pressure due to the change in height of the fluid level.
