How to determine that we have to find hcf or lcm in a given question? Is there any key words for that .

If we need to find highest common number which will divide or satisfy both the numbers(sometimes more than two numbers) Then we find out HCL. Example: there are two stack of plates and we need to organize them in equal quantity.

If we need to find out common multiple of numbers then we find LCM. Example: Ramesh finishes the race in 12 minutes, Rahul finishes the same race in 18 minutes. How long will it take to meet both of them in the starting position, if they start the race at the same time. (Example: Ramesh [12, 24, 36] Rahul[18,36] both will meet in 36 min. It is Least Common Multiplication.
