to detect the charge of any element u need is it's atomic number

tiwarirohit211pad4rf: but i m saying that when we calculate oxidation state how we can detect the charge on any element
tiwarirohit211pad4rf: for example : K4[Fe(CN)6]

☆ Hello Rohit ☆
==================
Here is your answer friend---------
============================

To determine the electronic charge on any element.....you need to know first
☆ it's atomic number
☆ And it's electronic configuration( filling of electrons in shell and subshell)

if you come to know about it's valency then you will be able to determine it's charge. For example:------->
Oxygen has 8 atomic number
and it's ele. config. is
K Shell = 2,
L Shell = 6
☆ AND it's VALENCY is 2
So it's charge would be -2

Here, Negative sign indicates that oxygen atom needs to electrons to complete it's valence shell.

Hope it will help you!
Thanks!

tiwarirohit211pad4rf: thnk u so mch
tiwarirohit211pad4rf: but one thing
tiwarirohit211pad4rf: can we also detect charge from periodic table ?
