How to determine whether the compound has a covalent or ionic bond?

first check whether the compound is neutral or not if not it is ionic compound

to check

draw the structure and check whether any co-ordinate covalent bond is there or not if not there it's covalent otherwise ionic

in a molecule the ionic bond is identified by seeing there elecronegative difference between the two atoms and if the electro negative diff is more the ionic bond is formed..

and covalent is mostly between non polar molecules.....
