We can distinguish between ionic compounds and covalent compounds by their melting points, boiling points, solubility in water and solubility in organic solvents.
1.a)It will be an ionic compound is a compound has high melting point and boiling point.
b) It will be a covalent compound if a compound has comparatively low melting point and boiling point.
2. a) It will be an ionic compound if a compound is soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents.
b) It will be a covalent compound is a compound is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
We can also distinguish between ionic compounds and covalent compounds by electrical conductivity test.
1.It will be an ionic compound if a compound conduct electricity( in the solution form or molten state).
2. It will be a covalent compound is a compound does not conduct electricity.
