Hi friend,

When a calculations involves more operations, the order of the operations is important. Division and multiplication are solved first, while additions and subtractions are solved later. To override this, brackets need to be used.

BODMAS stands for :

• B - Bracket

• O - Of

• D - Division

• M - Multiplication

• A - Addition

• S - Subtraction

"of" means multiply, therefore ¼ of 12 = ¼ × 12 = 3.

According to BODMAS you must do brackets first, then of, then division, followed by multiplication, then addition, and finally subtraction.

Hope this helps u ☺

DevCena: sorry but its operation..and not of in O of BODMAS
Angel291: u r wrong
armaanian: Mahak Dear ... here O stands for of ... not multipication

BODMAS is very useful in mathematics.
It is applicable in problems where you have to simplify a given set of numbers by using the four fundamental operations i.e., addition (+), subtraction(-), multiplication (
×) and division (÷).

How should we use it?
Always remember the order of BODMAS. It states that the simplification problems that you do, you should always start with the part of the problem that is in the brackets as B comes the first in BODMAS. Then you should go for the division part as D comes next. Next, for the multiplication part, then addition and at last subtraction.

If you don't follow this order, the solution that you get may be wrong.
