To find the number of moles contained in a sample, you need to know the mass of the sample, the molecular formula of the sample and you need to be able to find the molar mass of the sample. To find the amount of moles contained in 4.56 grams of [toxic] chlorine gas (Cl2), you find the mass number of chlorine and multiply it by 2 (because there are two chlorine atoms for each molecule of chlorine gas).
So chlorine’s mass number is 35.45.
Multiply that by 2, Cl2 has a molar mass of 70.90 grams for each mole.
Refer to the mass of the sample given: 4.56 grams.
4.56 grams x 1 mole/70.90 grams = 0.0643
So chlorine’s mass number is 35.45.
Multiply that by 2, Cl2 has a molar mass of 70.90 grams for each mole.
Refer to the mass of the sample given: 4.56 grams.
4.56 grams x 1 mole/70.90 grams = 0.0643
