❤❤HEYA DEAR!! HERE IS YOUR ANSWER❤❤

⏩To find the valency of an atom..We will first notice the atomic number of the element...

We know very well that,

=> In first shell there are only 2 electrons.

=>In second shell means in 'L' Shell , there are only 8 electrons.

=>In third shell means in 'M' shell , there are only 8 electrons.

As valency is a measurement of the power of an atom to combine with others, by the number of hydrogen atoms it can combine with or take the place of..

So ..For example ..Oxygen has a atomic number 8 ...So in first shell it will cover 2 electrons, In Second shell , It will cover only 6 electrons ..but In second shell the required number of electrons are 8 but oxygen has covered only 6 electrons...Hence..The valency of oxygen is 2 because we need 2 more electrons to fill the shell...

hope \: this \: helps
