The valency is the number of electrons in outermost shell or less than 4 for example the valency of sulphur is 2

before shells there are also subshells which need to be filled....
you can find the valency of an atom by using its atomic number
example....
the atomic number of oxygen is 8
there are shells like k, l ,m,
n....
in K shell 2 electrons can be filled.
in L shell 8 electrons can be filled
so electronic configuration of oxygen atom will be 2 ,6

HOPE IT HELPS U.......

Hello dear friend ✌✌

✈Method for finding out valency.

✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍

Valency ✈it is the number of electrons an atom can gain, lose or share.

Let me tell you the most important thing to keep in mind while finding valency.

You must be aware of the atomic numbers of all the elements.

Like✈ Oxygen
Atomic number ✈8
Electronic configuration ✈2,6
The number of valence electrons ✈6

So,it needs only 2 electrons to complete it's octet.

So,the valency will be 2-

Valency✈2 negative..

OK...☺☺

Another example ➡

Calcium⭐

Atomic number ✈20
Electronic configuration✈2,8,8,2
Valence electrons ✈ 2

So,rather than gaining. it can lose 2 electrons easily.

Thus,
The valency will be 2 positive.

Hope this helps you ⭐☺
