Oxidation Number of some elements should be known to you.
For Example :-
★ All the Nobel gases have Oxidation state = 0
★ Oxygen, Sulphur have Oxidation state = -2
★ S - Block 1st Group elements have Oxidation state = +1
★ S- Block 2nd group elements have Oxidation state = +2
★ Hydrogen have Oxidation Number = +1
★ Oxidation state of peroxide is -1
# Examples :-
1) H2SO4 =>
Let's consider the oxidation state of Sulphur 'S' be x
So, (+1)(2) + x (-2)(4) = 0 (since overall charge is neutral)
x = +6
2) KMnO4
Let's consider the oxidation state of Mangnese 'Mn' be x
(+1) + x + (-2)(4) = 0
x = +7
