The optically active substance which rotates the plane polarised light in the counterclockwise is called as levorotatory.

The sucrose is the combination of glucose and fructose.

The steaming rotates the plane polarized light in the opposite direction of the sucrose.

This shows the levorotatory. Sucrose is generally dextrorotary which rotates the plane in the counterclockwise.
