How to find valency of scandium using a pdf?

Scandium = 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d1
Hence, many people misconcept that its valency is 1.
But in reality, when it goes into excited state, one of its electrons jump in d subshell from s like we can see in C.
Hence, its excited state config is 4s1 3d2. Hence it has 3 electrons to form bonds and thus valency is 3.

Arushisin: We count 4s and 2 3d orbitals because Sc goes to excited state. Electronic config differs in ground and excited state within same atom.
