How to find wheater a compound shows +r effect or -r effect?

The +R group are the groups which contribute their lone pairs for increased resonance(delocalisation) effect ,there by stabilizing the molecule. its called as positive mesomeric(+M)or resonance(+R) . the +R groups are -OH,-NH2 ETC..
