if we assume earth is example of solid sphere.
we know, moment of inertia of solid sphere about its axis of rotation , I = 2/5 MR²
where M is mass of solid sphere and R is the radius of it.
so, Moment of inertia of earth about its axis of rotation = moment of inertia of solid sphere about its axis of rotation
= 2/5 MR²
if M = 5.97 × 10²⁴ kg,
R = 6.38×10^6 m,
so, I = 2/5 × (5.97 × 10²⁴) × (6.38 × 10^6)²
= 97.202 × 10^36
= 9.7202 × 10^37 kgm²
