Electron dot structure of some ionic compounds are shown below the last one is Al2O3. It is made up of cation Al3+ and anion O2- .The Al3+ is formed by removing all 3 electrons from its outer most shell so its lewis structure will be simply Al3+ with no electron in its outermost shell. O2- is formed by gaining 2 electrons so its outermost shell carry total 8 electrons and lewis structure will show 8 electrons on O in closed [ ] bracket with -2 charge as shown below.
