The magnetic nature of an element can be determined by its electronic configuration. If an element has unpaired electrons then it is paramagnetic while if all the electons are paired then it diamagnetic in nature.

There is not such specific formula but you have to look for the electronic configuration.

Examples are Hydrogen is diamagnetic in nature while Magnesium is para magnetic in nature.
