To find the per capita income (average income) per annum of a country, you need to find the national income (total income of all citizens) and then divide it by the population ( total no. of people living in the country.)

If you want to know if a country can be considered rich or poor, you need to compare the per capita income so obtained (by converting the amount to US$ such that each dollar would buy the same amount of goods in different countries; have same value) with the world development report published by the world bank in 2006, which states that a country can be considered rich if its PCI is $12376 or more and poor if it's PCI is less that $1045.

Also, you can compare the per capita income with those of other developed, developing and least developed countries to find this out.
