valencies.(-)negative sign on the right top of symbols represent that they receive or take electrons and (+)positive sign indicates that they can share or give electrons.Example in the table:

Sodium (Na+)can give 1 electron whereas Clorine(Cl-)can take 1electron.

They both share that 1electron to form compound NaCl. Always metal are electro-positive and non-metals or gases (except octet atomed gases) are electro-negative.
