Subtract .5 from lower class limit and add .5 in higher class limit
Example:
Discontinuous interval: 9-19
Continous interval: 8.5-19.5

  • Continuous classes are the ones in which upper boundary of a class is equal to the lower boundary of succeeding class.
  • It is also called as exclusive form as the upper limit of each class is excluded but lower limit is included.
  • Discontinuous class are the ones in which upper limits does not continue in succeeding class.
  • It is also called as inclusive form as both upper and lower limits are included while recording observations.
  • It is important to convert discontinuous classes into continuous as it is helpful for us in calculating central tendencies and also other parameters.
  • To convert discontinuous classes into continuous classes, we subtract 0.5 from lower limit and add 0.5 limit to upper limit.
