1/2 is always the half of a substance for example you have 3 chocolates and you have to share those chocolates with your younger sibling in a way that both of u have an equal amount of chocolate so,

you will take those chocolates and give 1 to ur brother and then you will

take the other chocolate but what u have 1 more chocolate left so you will cut that chocolate in half or in mathematical words u will cut that chocolate into 1/2 pieces.
