How to solve the question for x and y? Pls answer quick.

from 2nd equation find y in terms of x and put this value of y in 1st equation....then you'll get only one variable equation in x.....then you'll able to find x and y.
you'll get x=y=(-a)

did that but the answer should not be in terms of a and b. but I am not able to remove a and b
see, if you don't get x and y in terms of a and b in any method.....this can't change in any way....
I wanted to know whether there is a way to simply it because it did not look in simplest terms
