Solution:

Given that,

Total number of children = 1500

According to the question,

Children are arranged in such an arrangement that number of rows is equal to the number of columns.This arrangement is similar to the square where number of rows and number of columns will be equal.

For this we have to first find the maximum number >1500 which has a perfect square.

By long division for finding square root of 1500(shown in the attachment) we will obtain, quotient=38 and remainder= 56.

square of 38 = 1444 which is less than 1500 and the highest square .

and the remaining would be 56.

i.e., arrangement will be in such a manner that

1500 = (1444)+56 = (38×38) +56

Therefore, the total number of children in the arrangement = 1444 and remaining children= 56
