See lets do it with example
We have given
X+y=7 (1)
And 2x+y=28 (2)

Now to solve the problem

Substract equation 1 with 2

We get
2x-x+y-y=28-7
X=21
Now x+y=7
So y = 7-21
= - 14

Eliminate a variable by expressing it in terms of the other variable.
For e.g
2x+3y=6
3x-2y=12

You can write y= (6x2x)/3 from the first equation
Now put this value of ‘y’ in the second equation
So you have eliminated a variable ‘y’
You will get the value of ‘x’
Put this value of ‘x’ in any of the two given equations to get the value of ‘y’

This method works every time.
Hope this helps :)
