x^2 = 8^2 + (16-x)^2
0 = -x^2 + 64 + 256 - 32x + x^2
0 = 320 - 32x
-320 = -32x
-320/-32 = x
10 = x

Therefore the value of x is 10

Sathyapriya1: Is this right
