x+y = 10 ----------i
x-y = 6 ------------ii

By Substitution method

x= 6+y

Substituting the value of x in (i)

6+y+y = 10
=> 2y = 10-6
=> 2y = 4
=> y = 2

x= 6+y
= 6+2
= 8

In the given equation x= 8 and y= 2

Given:

x+y= 10..... eq (1)

x-y= 6......eq (2)

To Find:

The values of x and y.

Solution:

x+y = 10

⇒y = 10- x ..... eq (3)

By replacing the value of y in eq (2)

x-10+x= 6

⇒2x= 16

⇒x= 8

In eq (3) we put x= 8,

y=10-8 = 2

Hence, x= 8 and y= 2.
