How to translate the following reactions into balanced chemical equations? Explain!!
1. Manganese dioxide is heated with aluminium powder.
2. Iron is treated with stream.

You get a very exothermic redox reaction taking place - it’s known as the thermite reaction and is used in welding applications such as rail track laying.[1]

With MnO2, the reaction equation is

3MnO2 + 4Al → 2Al2O3 + 3Mn

Molten metallic manganese is produced, along with aluminium oxide and a lot of heat energy.

The equivalent reaction using iron oxide when ignited gives off enough heat to melt the
