In the story The Cherry Tree, Rakesh is a very caring person. He plants a cherry seedling and nurtures it at every point of time. He watches it grow and always stays by the plant like a parent would to his/her child. As time goes by, the cherry tree suffers various perils such as having its leaves eaten by a goat and a grass cutter who cuts it down. Yet, Rakesh does not give up on the plant and it becomes a huge tree. Finally, Rakesh’s efforts are rewarded and on his ninth birthday, his cherry tree bears its first blossoms.
