there are some rule for write a chemical reaction in shorthand notation .

a) all element present in chemical reaction write their symbol .
e.g hydrogen (H) Oxygen (O) etc

b) if compound present in chemical reaction its also write in symbolic format .
e.g. calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ), hydrogen chloride (HCl ) etc .

c) if element /molecule/ions present in chemical reaction is gas , aqueous solution, , solid then write in small bracket (g) , (aq), (s) respectively .

d) if after reaction gases release or precipitation form , then use upward arrow sign for gases and downward arrow sign for precipitation .

e) if reaction is exothermic then add Q in product . and if reaction is endothermic then subtract Q in product or add Q in reactant .
example: -
CaO +CO2 -----> CaCO3 +Q
CaCO3 +Q -------> CaO +CO2
